Reimagined Monday: TV Console Goes Green & Natural

Just over a year ago, Abi Roberts inspired many of our customers with her first ever paint project when she reimagined a french provincial cabinet she'd found on Kijiji (check it out here).  She chose to use Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Emperor's Silk, and explained that even she was surprised by the results of her first DIY project!

Having experienced how fun and easy Chalk Paint™ is, when Abi found a TV Console on Cherished Bliss that she loved it was an obvious choice to use it again for her new project.

Abi shared her latest DIY success with us and we're happy to be able to share it here with you!

"Although I'm not handy I was pretty confident that I could do this console. I knew the painting part was going to be pretty because I was going to use ASCP. I bought the chest of drawers on Kijiji. 

 I painted the whole thing in Olive green and was pretty satisfied with the results. Painting with ASCP meant I was finished in no time at all.

Then I thought I'm going to do something a little fancy. I was going to put a stain on the top. This is where the hard work came sanding, striping, and staining the top took a few days. It was also very messy.

For the final finishing touches I changed the drawer handles. I then took out the top two drawers and I asked my handyman to build a sliding top shelf to hold my electronics. He also drilled a small hole in the back to pass cords through. 

 All in all, I love my new console. It has the character and the pop of colour that I needed for my living room. If it wasn't for ASCP I would not of attempted such a project. I'm happy that I didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars for a new piece of furniture and I have a piece that I personally created." 

We love it, Abi... it's definitely a one-of-a-kind piece (and a big savings).

You will leave with the enthusiasm and expertise to go home and reimagine a piece of furniture with confidence.

Got Milk Paint? Workshop

Taking our hands-on Milk Paint workshop will ensure that you acquire a strong knowledge of how to use Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint, Furniture Wax and Antiquing Wax. You will complete sample boards to take home along with your new skills. Then, let the reimagining begin!

In this workshop you will learn about:

• History, characteristics and preparation of Milk Paint
• Different uses of Milk Paint
• Multi-layer painting
• Faux-finishing techniques: antiquing, distressing etc.
• Crackle finish

All in-class supplies, light snacks and beverages are included. Just show up in your paint clothes and be ready to have fun!

Colour of the Month: French Linen Chalk Paint™

Our Colour of the Month for June is French Linen! It is described as "a cool neutral khaki-grey inspired by the bleached deep neutral of old pieces of French and Italian furniture".

We simply call it yummy!

Reimagined Monday: Camping In Style ...& Colour!

Well, as they say, better late than never!  We're still moving a tad slow around here thanks to that hideous spring flu, but wanted to post this makeover as a little pick-me-up on a chilly, wet and windy day.

Contrary to what it seems (at least here in Alberta), summer is right around the bend, and now is the time to start those projects to make it another fantastic, colourful season.

That is just what Angela Boone Leachman did to jazz up her vintage trailer using Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan in Emperor's Silk, Provence, Graphite, Pure White, and Arles.

Closed for the Day...

Well, it has happened.  We didn't want it to, but it has...

Our staff has been struck with the flu.  A part of this is laryngitis, which means we would be of little help to those requiring assistance.  Rather than share it with our customers, we have decided to close for the day.  It is not something we take lightly, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Being a family-run boutique is something we are told makes us a special place to visit and shop, but as with any family there are times like these as well.  We appreciate your patience and understanding, and wish you a happy Friday.
